I got a job in Kansas City!!!

I'm moving in August 15th and starting my new life !

Don't you guys worry though..I'm always thinking about the next thing I want to do . My next goal is to get into travel nursing and trying myself out in NYC, Chicago, or Boston .

I found out some interesting stuff today.

I decided to try and do some family research. I followed my Grandfather Cambridge's line.

It turns out that I am related to Alfred the Great and I was able to trace that line back to BC Ancient Line of Troy. I had a bunch of Trojan names towards the end (100s).

Pretty cool, huh?!? I'm a royal Trojan! haha

I passed the nursing boards!! I'm officially a registered nurse..woot woot!

I still don't have a job. So, I'm a licensed, but unemployed, nurse . I'm leaving for Italy on Tuesday so I haven't been actively looking for a couple of days because what's the point? I won't be able to interview or talk to them for a couple of weeks. Would I tell them, "oh thanks for calling...can you save the job for me for a couple of weeks, interview me, and then maybe give me the job?". I don't think that would work very well.

I have to keep reminding myself that when one door closes, another door will open somewhere..hopefully!

I graduated from nursing school last Friday with all the good stuff (Summa Cum Laude, Sigma Theta Tau, etc, etc.)...kind of weird how a lot of the "good stuff" is in Greek . It feels like I've worked my bum off since I was born when it comes to academics. I have a bunch of professional and personal references that can vouch for my character. Even with all of this, I remain unemployed . Children's Mercy decided not to hire me..don't ask why because the only thing I can think of is that they decided to hire a Kansas University nursing student that they knew from clinicals (which makes sense..I just wish they would not have waited 2 months to tell me). I am also graduating in one of the worst economic times this country has seen in awhile. Even hospitals are going on hiring freezes and though they still need nurses, they don't want to use the money to train a new grad when they can find a registered nurse with experience!

So, as irony would have it, even with the best grades, great references, and good work ethic...politics and luck still find a part to play in my life. Some of my favourite people in this world have not put in nearly the amount of work that I have put in over the years, and yet everything falls into place for them. As pessimistic as this sounds...I really am trying to focus on the fact that this "bad luck", or whatever you want to call it, has really nothing to do with me as a person and everything to do with life. C'est la vie.

I'll eventually find a job (given it won't be the one I really want). I'm just hoping that I'll find this job before I go on my trip. If I can't find one before I leave on my trip, I hope that I find one before my apartment's move in date. If I don't have a job by then, I might have to give up my apartment (say goodbye to a $200 deposit and $140 processing fee) and stay here. I envy those people that can just say to me "everything happens for a reason..." I wish I had the guts to say that if I can't get a job in KC, I'll just continue to look around the country in places like Chicago, NY, or Boston.

However, I was cursed with a rational and logical mind .

1. Do you think I have a boyfriend? Nope...I've never had a boyfriend actually. I'll go on dates and things like that, but I wouldn't say I've ever had an actual boyfriend.

2. Do you think I am happy or sad on the inside? I'm happy on the inside most of the time...I don't think it's possible to be happy all the time.

3. Do you think I am a virgin? I'm used to getting this question so it doesn't bother me to answer it lol: Yes I am.

4. How old do you think I was when I had my first kiss? I was about 8 or 9 I think..haha aww cute, right?

5. How many boyfriends do you think I've had? Zero.

6. Do you think I'm shy or loud? Depends on the situation...but I'm somewhere in between...I'm not shy, but I'm not really LOUD either.

13. Do you think I have any body piercings? I have one ear piercing in each ear. I have a high threshold for pain when pain is necessary and can't be avoided, but if I can avoid it and it's voluntary?? No thank you!

Ok, so it's not in Italy, but it is in Kansas City..and a bunch of Italians and Irish live there...so close enough..for now!

I actually got lucky for once and found this place during a time when they're having a great special! I would not be able to afford this place w/ out that special, so I'm pretty excited !

St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Sadly, I was going to be in KC and go out to an Irish pub tonight, but mom got sick and we had to postpone our trip until Thursday. I did get invited to go out here in Wichita. However, I'm having a moral dilemma. They are going out to a bar known as "Larry's Bud"....that's right..."Larry's Bud". I think going there on St. Patrick's Day might be blasphemy . American bars named after Larry and his Budweiser just seems wrong on St. Paddy's day. I'd almost rather get drunk at home while watching the history channel replay the same 3 shows all day ...because we all know that Ireland doesn't really have much history .

Hope everyone has a great St. Patrick's Day in an Irish or Irish-American pub ! And damn those who want to ruin the fun:

"A St Patrick’s Day parade due to take place today in Lurgan, Co Armagh, has been cancelled at the last moment because of tensions in the area following the murder of a police officer by the Continuity IRA eight days ago."

N. Ireland police: Soldiers murdered as they lay on ground

(CNN) -- The execution-style killing of two British soldiers and wounding of four other people in Northern Ireland was "an attempt at mass murder," police said Sunday.

Police have cordoned off entry to the scene of the attack which killed two soldiers.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown condemned the Saturday night attack as "evil and cowardly," saying "the whole country is shocked and outraged."

The troops are the first British soldiers to be killed in Northern Ireland in 12 years, the Ministry of Defense confirmed.

They were shot as pizzas were delivered to their base in Massereene, in County Antrim, Detective Chief Superintendent Derek Williamson of the Police Service of Northern Ireland said Sunday. Two other soldiers and two pizza delivery men were also wounded. The injuries were serious, a police spokeswoman said earlier.

Williamson called the attack "an attempt at mass murder," saying that two gunmen with automatic rifles fired an initial volley of shots, then moved forward and fired a second burst at people lying on the ground before fleeing in a car driven by a third person.

Police have not named the victims, but Williamson described them as "very young men in their early 20s." They were due to be deployed shortly to Afghanistan, he said.

"Our inquiries are concentrating on dissident republicans," said Williamson, referring to Catholic militants who refused to join the Irish Republican Army in supporting the Northern Ireland peace process.

The attack stirred memories of three decades of violence that has largely faded since the 1998 Good Friday Accord.

Thomas Burns, a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly who represents south Antrim, warned the attack could be a "devastating blow to the peace process," and a return to "bad old days again where people are being killed in open gun attacks. ... You wouldn't want ever to go back to those terrible, terrible old days of killing."

However, Brown said the murders would not derail the peace process in Northern Ireland.

"I assure you that we will bring these murderers to justice," he said. "No murderer will be able to derail a peace process that has the support of the vast majority of the people of Northern Ireland."

Gerry Adams, leader of Sinn Fein, the former political arm of the IRA, said the attack was "wrong and counterproductive."

"Last night's attack was an attack on the peace process," he said. "Those responsible have no support, no strategy to achieve a united Ireland. Their intention is to bring British soldiers back on to the streets. They want to destroy the progress of recent times and to plunge Ireland back into conflict."

The U.S. State Department condemned the attack in a statement.

"We call on all parties in Northern Ireland to unequivocally reject such senseless acts of violence, whose intention is to destroy the peace that so many in Northern Ireland have worked so hard to achieve," department spokesman Robert Wood said.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Tensions in the region have ramped up in recent days.

Last week, Hugh Orde, chief constable of the Northern Ireland police, requested that a British military intelligence regiment help investigate what he called increased activity among dissident republican groups.

Sinn Fein warned against bringing in the troops, saying their presence would stir bad feelings among Catholics.

"There can be no place for so-called British Special Forces within any civic and accountable policing structures," Adams said Saturday.

Shaun Woodward, the British government minister responsible for Northern Ireland, pointed out that the soldiers killed were not there to police the province.

"Operation Banner has ended," he said, a reference to the 37-year British military deployment in Northern Ireland. The operation lasted from 1969 to 2007.

"The soldiers who are here now are actually for deployment elsewhere in the world," he said, calling the troops at the base "men and women about to be deployed to Afghanistan ... [doing] humanitarian work, protecting people's lives in another part of the world."

The attack happened about 200 yards from a police station where suspected militants are believed to have recently been detained and questioned.

William McCrea, a member of Parliament from the loyalist Democratic Unionist Party and a Presbyterian minister, was mourning what he called "a very grievous evening."

"Our soldiers are fighting in Afghanistan to defeat terrorism, but this is on our own doorstep," he said. "We can't go back to that."

Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom. Split between Catholics and Protestants, it was racked for decades by violence between Protestants who wanted to remain part of the UK and Catholics who wanted to join the Republic of Ireland, which is independent.

Violence spilled over into Britain, with the IRA bombing cities including London and Birmingham. For nearly 30 years, British soldiers patrolled Northern Ireland in armored vehicles and hunkered down in bases surrounded by concrete walls and barbed wire.

Northern Ireland now has a power-sharing government and a prevailing peace that had been welcomed by all but radical splinter groups.
